Swedish alt-pop duo Vola Tila arrive with a bang. They come straight out of the gate armed with an infectious yet emotional account of “a loss of oneself”.

 

The track, ‘New Behaviour’ arrives today via [PIAS] Access, lifted from Vola Tila’s forthcoming debut EP. Recorded in collaboration with Sonic Boom (MGMT, Panda Bear, Spacemen 3) 

and Stockholm producer Charlie Storm, the track documents a "personal apocalypse". 

A heady blend of pop and indie, fusing synths, guitars and both live and programmed drums,

the pair take influence from a crossover of genres, each with a background in production

and composing for other artists.

‘New Behaviour’ was one of the lucky few tracks to make it on to the final EP, an encapsulation of the duo’s musical energy and a direct account of their respective inner turmoil.

 

“The person is feeling confused by mental concepts between who she/he is and supposed to be. During the making of it, both of us were very sedated.

It meant that we filtered out a lot of the music we made during those sessions and only kept the songs we could connect to on a deeper level."
 
Formed recently in Stockholm, Johannes Henriksson and Richard Andersson bonded over a deep-rooted love for music from the ‘70s and ‘80s, and an urge to only spend their days

creating music.

Johannes recounts: 

 

“I said to Richard, ‘I will make music for the rest of my life or I will kill myself. I’m not gonna spend my life on anything other than music.’ And

he told me that he shared the same obsession for music. And it was the

first time both of us met someone like that. Since then we’ve spent

almost every day together in the studio.” 

The duo are songwriters by profession, having previously written beloved hits for some of pop’s finest – and Vola Tila has been an exercise in the pair finding themselves as artists with their own voice.

 

2019 will see them head to UK shores for some shows (as yet unannounced), but in the meantime 'New Behaviour' is an incredible first taster of great things to come from the seasoned songwriters.
