VESSEL & RAKHI SINGH
Vessel and Rakhi Singh announce their new project 'Written in Fire', with a UK tour announced for later this year. They released their first track
After releasing their album 'Queen of Golden Dogs' last year, Tri Angle Records Vessel is back with a new collaborative project with violinist Rakhi Singh. The pair have joined forces to
create a new 30-minute movement of music entitled 'Written in Fire' and set to tour
the UK later this year, with shows in London, Cardiff, Manchester & Scotland.
Rakhi Singh and Seb Gainsborough (Vessel) met whilst working on a piece for Immix Ensemble. A strong bond over music was the result, with both enjoying feeling out of their depth in regards
to each others’ taste and musical background. They began to write their first collaborative
piece not long afterwards.
The result of this was Written in Fire. Composed for string quartet and electronics, it is a response to Czech composer Leos Janacek’s second string quartet, entitled Intimate Letters. Rather than write a piece in the style of Janacek, or recontextualise the original work for a modern
audience, Written in Fire is a personal reaction to the cascade of feelings
the piece provokes.
After being premiered at the 2018 edition of the Aldeburgh Music Festival, Written in Fire will be presented at various UK venues in 2019. They will be joined for some of these performances by Portuguese director and video artist Pedro Maia.
They are currently working on their second collaboration, a new commission for Manchester Collective inspired by Baroque music and John Milton's Paradise Lost.
