The instrumental post-rock ambience of Unwed Sailor has been guided by the vision of

Johnathon Ford. Born in Oklahoma, Johnathon had been a member of Roadside Monument

and Pedro the Lion.

He formed Unwed Sailor in Seattle in 1998 and has since been based in other cities including Chicago, Tulsa and New Orleans.

Throughout the project’s lifespan, Johnathon Ford has sculpted the project into myriad instrumental directions, from angular post-rock rhythms, to dreamy ambient soundscapes,

to inward-looking drones, to the sound of homemade instruments playing storybook

nursery rhymes.

 

Though all these directions vary in style, all of the albums share a certain melodic sensibility, and the new album is perhaps the most apt framing of Unwed Sailor live and possibly their darkest and densest batch of songs yet.

For the visuals of the track "Ovid" drummer Matthew Putman put together a video made up of tour/recording/studio footage the band had taken over the past 20 years, featuring a bunch

of vintage footage with a cast of pretty well known musicians who are their friends and collaborators they’ve known over the years including: Me Without You, Sufjan Stevens,

Fleet Foxes, Pedro the Lion/Dave Bazan, Danielson Famile, Manchester Orchestra

& Father John Misty when he used to play drums for them!.
