SPIRITCAKE
Spiritcake drifts between personal conflicts and the natural world in stunning debut effort Bel∞ved.
Drifting beautifully between personal conflicts and the natural world, Spiritcake’s debut single Bel∞ved marks the first chapter of the newcomer’s journey and does so with
aplomb.
Centred around ideas relating to anthropocene – an attempt to reconcile living in an already dying planet – the solo project of Philippe Nash explores his own relationship with the wild and taps into a vast collection of influences including Thom Yorke, Elliot Smith,
Richard Dawson and Portishead.
Discussing his debut effort, the songwriter explained:
"Bel∞ved is the shape of Spiritcake's underbelly. Written in a time of environmental awakening, my eyes opening to an external and internal collapse. I was longing for what could transcend and bind. Original lyrics shifted from 'got' to 'want' in the end; an invisible movement still hunting and haunting the which is my asking if love is at the core. While multiple arrangements and iterations have lived and died, the melody has barely changed since the beginning and this newly realised minimal recording is the best fit for what feels to me like a stark and vulnerable first release".
Earmarked as the lead single for his upcoming debut EP, Spiritcake is primed to share further new material over the coming months and will be making his debut festival appearance
at Green Man this summer.
Spiritcake’s Bel∞ved is released 13th March and will be available via all digital platforms.
