ODD MORRIS

Dublin’s Odd Morris share electric new single, ‘COLD WATER’.

Odd Morris are very pleased to unleash their new single, Cold Water, ahead of their sold-out hometown show at Whelan’s.
The Irish four-piece are the latest product of their city’s vibrant music scene, albeit channelling a sound that takes them further left than that of their peers. Sharing rehearsal space with the likes

of local favourites Fontaines DC, The Murder Capital and Just Mustard, Odd Morris are

taking the city’s guitar-rich sound, distorting it, and creating a darker atmosphere that

sounds uniquely their own.

Cold Water follows the recent release of the Lilac Leaves. A menacing track, it finds vocalist Daragh Griffin grappling with his own idealistic views of romance, and plays out in two

distinct halves.

The first half of the song portrays the frontman’s unease at the vulnerability and compromise that accompanies entering a committed relationship, before realising the beauty of letting one’s guard down and embracing the uncertainty.

Cold Water’s narrative is conveyed through an ever-intensifying tempo. Layered guitars provide the impending sense of a crescendo throughout the track, as the protagonist digs deep within himself to make peace with reality.

“I just tried to explain what that felt like,” Daragh says of the song’s sentiment.

‘And, to me, it was a shock to the system - like how people suddenly gasp in shock when they hit cold water’.

About the video, Odd Morris said:

"The video is a day-in-the-life-of situation, filmed where Daragh lives in Dublin's city centre. I just had a basic idea to follow a character on his

daily routine whilst something is niggling him at the back of his mind.

It's all very close and domestic in ways, the male actor is my flatmate

and parts are filmed in my room.

Other parts are filmed on bus routes that we all took as young kids. Being from Swords in North County Dublin, a trip into the city was butterfly-feeling inducing as a toddler, and living there now, I often get that

feeling as I turn the corner on Hill Street from Gardener Place.

The old street lamps are enough to stop me in my tracks. We really have a grounded love for Dublin's North Inner City, and coming from our previous video for Lilac Leaves which was all filmed indoor, this time we wanted

our character to be outdoors, breathing-in and roaming the city.

Odd Morris hit London on 5th February to play a headline show at The Victoria in Dalston.

Their debut gig in November caught the attention of BBC’s Steve Lamacq; who subsequently

added Odd Morris to his 6Music Recommends playlist.
Despite being a new band, Odd Morris have already shared stages with the likes of Fat White Family, and Ezra Furman
