MADI
Shares new 'Dirty (Word)' Single
Self-described as ‘weirdo pop’, Welsh band MADI perform electronically-tinged art-pop.
MADI’s sound has been compared to that of St Vincent, Kimbra, and Goldfrapp.
Welsh singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer Maddie Jones, performs alongside band members and Dan Fitzgerald (guitar, pedals, modular synth), Chay Lockyer (bass, synth) and Rich Welsby (drums, samples). The band were born earlier this year as a result of experimentation with production and electronic songwriting, and in-depth work with producer Charlie Francis (REM, Future of the Left, Sweet Baboo), after several successful years playing as Maddie Jones.
"MADI believes in being more than just a band. Inspired by the relationship between colour and music, MADI directs videos, designs artwork, and builds sets. Inspired by the magical otherness of ideas like Boomtown and Burning Man, MADI wants to incorporate visual, immersive elements into the her live show experience. The audience become a part of it, not just observers. MADI’s development of ideas, collaboration with projection and lighting design, dance, circus, theatre and costume, makes for a sensory extravanganza."
“Oh wow, it’s a brilliant new direction, taking her music to another level, we love it... huge respect for MADI and her music.” - Bethan Elfyn, BBC Introducing/BBC Radio Wales
Alongside creating music as MADI, Maddie performs as a vocalist, and as a session musician for artists including Dan Bettridge. She also curates and presents line-ups, such as her Girl in a Band stage for Swn Festival and The Tramshed Sessions (MADE TV). She wrote the music for and appears in the touring feminist gig-theatre production ‘Enough is Enough’, and mentors other artists as part of the Forte project.
