CHELOU - "OUT OF SIGHT"

For an artist who describes themselves as a lone wolf and, who has been to date, something of an enigma, it’s been a seminal twelve months for Chelou.  2018 has marked the year the singer/songwriter has stepped firmly into the spotlight.

Chelou wraps up a high profile year with the release of new single Out Of Sight on his own Concrete Dog Records imprint on November 30th and now the release of the music video.

On Out Of Sight the London based musician mines dystopian dream folk straddling the realms of cosmic and earthly pleasures.  This is songwriting on an epic scale occupying the spaces between our daily reality of touchscreens, instant streams and global communications, and the spiritual truth of touch, taste, love and lust.

Written during a time of uncertainty following the untimely departure of his drummer,

Chelou says:

[The song] “sums up where I was at the time…. "I’m trying to get going but I already see that I’m done”. Despite this the song has an overall sentiment of hope at the end - despite my running and feeling of disillusion there was always hope.”

Out Of Sight is produced by Cam Blackwood (London Grammar, Florence And The Machine, George Ezra) who having been blown away by Chelou’s live show – which included a full blown stage invasion – urged Chelou to come along to his studio.

Chelou’s distinctive brand of “decaying blues shrouded in hushed electronics” has seen him carve out a considerable fan base via two self produced EPs, a clutch of singles – viral hit Halfway To Nowhere amassing a staggering 30 million + streams – and some noteworthy collaborations including a feature spot on Maya Jane Coles LP Take Flight.

A touring schedule taking in eighteen countries and 50 key cities along with festival appearances at the likes of Green Man, Wilderness, Bestival, The Great Escape, FARR, Eurosonic, has seen Chelou’s dedicated fan base spread beyond British shores.

With tastemaker support from the likes of  champions at radio including Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart, Nemone and Lauren Laverne; Chelou is gearing up for the release of his debut album in 2019 – details of which will be announced in due course…
